Awning repairs in Malaga: it can almost always be fixed
Most of the awnings we’re called out to replace don’t actually need replacing. The awning repair in Malaga we do most often is awning fabric replacement: the coastal sun, salt air and the passing years fade and weaken the fabric long before the aluminium frame wears out. With new fabric, properly tensioned and cut to the exact size, your awning gives the same shade as on day one.
Other times the problem is mechanical: an arm that won’t extend, springs that have lost their strength, a bracket loosened by the levante, a crank handle that slips or a motor that no longer responds to the remote. All of this can be checked, adjusted or replaced part by part, without taking down the whole installation or doing any work on the facade.
And most importantly: we repair awnings installed by other companies. It doesn’t need to be one of ours, and you don’t need to know the brand. We come out, take a look and tell you honestly whether it’s worth repairing or whether you’d be better off replacing it.
What’s wrong with your awning?
- Faded or sun-bleached fabric
- Torn fabric or split seams
- Arms that won’t tension
- Motor not responding
- Awning won’t close properly
- Awning fitted by another installer

New fabric, arms and springs or a new motor
Three types of repair that cover almost every awning fault. At the visit we work out which one yours needs and whether it makes sense to do several at once.

Replacement awning fabric
We remove the old fabric, check the roller tube and front bar, and fit new made-to-measure fabric in Sauleda or Dickson. You choose the colour, plain or striped, and whether you want acrylic fabric or a micro-perforated one that lets the air through.

Arm and spring repairs
If the fabric sags, the awning stays half-open or one arm drops lower than the other, we check the elbows, belts or cables, springs and brackets. We replace worn parts and level the arms so the fabric is taut and the awning closes straight.

New motor or motorisation
If the motor is noisy, stops halfway or ignores the remote, we check it and, if it can’t be fixed, fit a Cherubini motor. We can also motorise a manual awning. More details on our awning motorisation page.
We repair retractable, cassette, drop arm, roller and vertical and monobloc awnings, as well as pergola canopies, for homes and businesses. If your awning is getting on a bit, we’ll also tell you what you’d gain with a new one, so you can decide with all the facts.
What’s included when we repair your awning
A single visit to look at the whole awning, not just the part that’s failed. That way you won’t fix the fabric only to have a spring give way two months later.

- New made-to-measure Sauleda or Dickson fabric

How we carry out your fabric replacement
Six steps, one point of contact and a price you know before we start.
- Tell us what’s wrongBy phone, WhatsApp or the form. A photo of the awning extended and another of the bracket help a lot.
- Visit and diagnosisFree of charge. We measure the fabric and check the arms, roller tube, springs, brackets and motor. We tell you what’s fine and what isn’t.
- Fixed-price quoteWe put in writing what needs repairing and how much it costs, with no obligation and often in under 24 hours. If it isn’t worth repairing, we’ll say so.
- Choose your fabricWe show you the Sauleda and Dickson sample books so you can choose the colour and fabric and see how they look against your facade.
- Repair by our own teamWe take down the old fabric, replace any parts that need it and fit the new fabric with the right tension.
- Testing and handoverWe open and close the awning with you, adjust whatever’s needed and take the old parts away. From that day on, you have after-sales cover.
Can you send us a photo of your awning extended? We can often tell you straight away whether it’s the fabric, the springs or the motor.
Send a photo on WhatsAppRepair the awning or replace it entirely?
Both options make sense, depending on the condition of the frame. This is how we weigh it up at the visit.
| Feature | Repair or new fabric | New awning |
|---|---|---|
| When it makes sense | Sound frame, firm arms and well-anchored brackets | Corroded aluminium, damaged brackets or parts no longer made |
| What’s replaced | The fabric and worn parts | Everything: frame, arms, fabric and, if you like, motor |
| Feature | New fabric on your existing frame | You can switch systems, for example to a cassette awning |
| Work on the facade | None: the existing brackets are used | New fixings, which we check against your facade |
| Time at your home | Usually one short fitting visit | A little more fitting time plus removing the old awning |
| Investment | Lower | Higher, designed to last many years |
| Warranty | On the fabric and new parts, depending on the manufacturer | On materials depending on the manufacturer, plus structure and installation |
If your awning is very exposed to the wind or the afternoon sun, you may want to switch systems: a cassette awning protects the fabric when it’s closed and a windbreak awning with side guides copes better with gusts. Every option is on our awnings in Malaga page.
Replacing awning fabric: price and what affects it
We don’t publish ballpark prices because two pieces of fabric of the same size can cost different amounts depending on the fabric and the condition of the awning. This is what makes a fabric replacement or repair cost more or less:
A fixed price before we touch your awning
We come and see it for free, explain what’s wrong and give you a written quote that won’t change halfway through the job. No obligation.
Awning repairs in the Axarquia, the Costa del Sol and the Costa Tropical
We set out from Velez-Malaga to repair awnings right across the province and along the Granada coast. On the seafront we see plenty of sun-scorched fabric and brackets battered by salt air; on the Costa del Sol, arms and springs that have suffered in the levante and poniente winds.

Frequently asked questions about awning repairs in Malaga
How much does it cost to replace the fabric on an awning?
It’s one of the questions we’re asked most, and the honest answer is that it depends on the awning. At QUBRE we don’t give ballpark prices per metre or “from” figures, because the cost of replacing awning fabric varies a lot with the size, the fabric and the condition of the rest of the installation, and a generic figure would have you comparing things that aren’t the same.
What matters most is the size of the fabric (the width and the projection or drop), the type of fabric you choose (acrylic, micro-perforated or screen, plain or striped, by Sauleda or Dickson) and the awning system, because fabric for a drop arm awning isn’t made up the same way as for a cassette or a pergola. It also counts if, when we check the awning, we find tired springs, loose brackets or a motor that would be worth replacing at the same time, plus the height of and access to the facade.
So you know before you decide, the visit and diagnosis are free. We give you a written quote with a fixed price, often in under 24 hours. If the awning needs more than new fabric, we break it down item by item so you can choose what to do now and what can wait.
You can request it using the form on this page or, if you’d rather talk to us, via our contact page. And if you’re torn between new fabric and a whole new awning, our awnings page shows every system we install.
Do you repair awnings installed by another company?
Yes, and it’s a very important part of our work. Lots of people call us because the company that fitted their awning no longer exists, doesn’t answer or doesn’t do repairs. It doesn’t need to be one of ours and you don’t need to know the brand: we repair awnings installed by other companies just like our own, throughout the province of Malaga and on the Costa Tropical in Granada.
When we come to see it, we check the whole awning: the condition of the fabric, the roller tube, the front bar, the arms, the springs, the brackets and the fixings to the facade, plus the motor if there is one. From that we tell you what can be repaired, which parts need replacing and whether any are no longer made. If so, we look for a compatible alternative or suggest the most sensible solution.
After the repair, that awning is covered by our after-sales service, just as if we’d installed it ourselves. New parts and fabric carry a materials warranty depending on the manufacturer and the product, and our workmanship is covered too.
The same goes for motors: if another brand’s motor has stopped working, we can repair it or replace it with a Cherubini motor. We explain more on our awning motorisation page and in our article on awning motors.
How often does awning fabric need replacing on the coast?
There’s no set date. How long fabric lasts depends mainly on how many hours of sun it gets, which way it faces, the wind, the salt air if you live near the sea and how it’s looked after. A south- or west-facing awning on the seafront takes far more punishment than one on a sheltered balcony inland in the Axarquia, even if both have the same fabric.
Rather than watching the calendar, look out for the signs. Fabric needs replacing when the colour is clearly sun-bleached, it feels rough or stiff, there are tears or open seams, there are mould stains that won’t come out, or it no longer tensions and sags so water collects. If it lets through a lot of light where it didn’t before, that’s a warning sign too.
Some things greatly extend the life of your fabric: closing the awning in strong wind and heavy rain, not leaving it rolled up wet for days, cleaning it with water and mild soap and, if you have the choice, opting for a cassette awning, which protects the fabric when it’s closed. On our blog we explain how to clean and maintain an awning step by step.
If you’re not sure whether your fabric needs replacing, send us a photo on WhatsApp or book a visit: the assessment is free and there’s no obligation.
Is it worth repairing an old awning, or is it better to buy a new one?
In most cases it’s worth repairing. The frame of an aluminium awning usually lasts much longer than its fabric, so if the arms are firm, the brackets well anchored and the aluminium free of corrosion, replacement awning fabric and a few adjustments will leave it practically as good as new for considerably less than a new awning.
We recommend replacing it entirely when the frame is damaged: profiles bent by a gust of wind, brackets that have come away from the facade, heavy corrosion from salt air, arms with play that can’t be corrected or parts that are no longer made and have no equivalent. It also makes sense when the awning you have isn’t right for your terrace, for example a small awning on a terrace that’s left without enough shade, or a system that’s very exposed to the levante.
At the visit we give you both options with their figures, if both are reasonable, and tell you which one we’d choose in your shoes. Nobody will try to sell you a new awning if yours can be fixed.
If you’re leaning towards replacing it, take a look at the systems we install: the retractable awning for terraces, the cassette awning for the coast or the drop arm awning for windows and balconies.
What’s the difference between Sauleda and Dickson awning fabric?
Sauleda and Dickson are two of the best-known awning fabric manufacturers, and we work with both. Both make acrylic fabrics designed to sit in the sun for hours on end, with collections of plain colours, stripes and technical fabrics. Rather than one brand being better than the other, the difference lies in the specific collection, colour, finish and type of fabric you choose for your awning.
What matters is getting the type of fabric right for how it’ll be used. Acrylic fabric gives dense shade and is the most common choice for terrace awnings. A micro-perforated fabric lets some air and light through, and works very well on vertical awnings and hot terraces. A screen fabric, like the one on a zip screen, filters the sun while keeping your view out. The exact performance of each fabric, such as water or mould resistance, depends on the manufacturer and the model, and we show you the data sheet for each collection.
Colour counts too. Light shades reflect more sun and dark ones give deeper shade; we explain it in which awning keeps the heat out best.
We bring the Sauleda and Dickson sample books to the visit so you can see the colours in the real light on your terrace and next to your facade.
My motorised awning won’t go in or out: can the motor be fixed?
Often, yes. Before thinking about a new motor, we check the basics: that power is getting through, that the remote has a working battery and is paired, that the motor’s thermal cut-out hasn’t tripped after continuous use and that the end stops are properly set. A misaligned end stop makes the awning stop early or strain the fabric when closing, and it can be corrected without replacing anything.
If the motor hums but the awning doesn’t move, stops halfway or doesn’t respond at all, it may be faulty. In that case, we assess whether it can be repaired or whether it’s better to replace it. When it needs replacing, we fit a Cherubini motor matched to the roller tube and weight of your awning, with its remote and, if you like, wind or sun sensors, depending on the model.
We also replace motors on awnings from other installers and other brands. And if your awning is manual and you’re tired of the crank handle, we can motorise it, as long as the frame allows.
There’s more information on our awning motorisation page and in our article on choosing an awning motor. If you prefer, send us a short video of the awning trying to move and we’ll point you in the right direction.
The fabric sags or one arm drops lower than the other: what’s wrong with my awning?
It’s almost always a problem with the arms and springs. On a folding-arm awning, the arms have springs and belts or cables inside that push them outwards to keep the fabric taut. Over the years, with sun and wind, those springs lose strength or the belts wear, and the fabric stops tensioning: it sags, water collects in the middle and the awning loses its shape.
If one arm drops lower than the other, it may be a worn spring in that arm, an elbow with play or a bracket that has worked loose on the facade. That last one needs careful checking, because a loose bracket can get worse in a gust of levante or poniente wind. The fabric may also have stretched, or the roller tube may be slightly bent.
At the visit we check every part, replace any worn springs, elbows, belts or brackets, use stainless fixings on everything we replace and level the arms so the awning closes straight. If the fabric is already out of shape, we’ll tell you whether it’s worth replacing it at the same time.
If your awning takes a battering from the wind, you might be interested in a windbreak awning with side guides or a monobloc awning, which is sturdier in large sizes.
How long does it take to repair an awning or replace its fabric?
It depends on what needs doing, but there are two stages. The first is the visit and quote: we come out to suit your availability and often send you the quote in under 24 hours. If a photo already shows us it’s a simple adjustment, we’ll tell you so you don’t wait longer than you need to.
The second is the repair at your home. Adjusting the end stops, replacing a spring or swapping a bracket can usually be done on the same fitting visit. For new fabric, it’s made to measure in the fabric and colour you choose, so it has to be ordered first; the lead time depends on the manufacturer and the fabric, and we state it in writing in the quote. Once we have it, fitting is quick and there’s no work needed on the facade.
If the awning belongs to a business, we organise the repair to disrupt your opening hours as little as possible, and if you live in a community of owners, we help you comply with any colour or model rules it has. On our awnings for businesses and hospitality page we explain how we work with bars and shops.
For awning repairs in Malaga, it’s best not to wait until spring, when everyone remembers their awning at the same time. Book your visit using the form.
