Your awning company in Malaga, neighbourhood by neighbourhood
Malaga is a city of terraces: balconies in the city centre, penthouses overlooking the port, communities of owners with dozens of homes in Teatinos, and villas with gardens in El Limonar or Cerrado de Calderon. As an awning company in Malaga, we install awnings in Malaga city designed for each of those spaces, not one model that’s supposed to suit everyone.
The city changes a lot from one neighbourhood to the next. In Pedregalejo and El Palo, by the sea, there are low-rise houses and flats that face salt air and the levante (easterly wind). Along the Carretera de Cadiz and in Teatinos, tall apartment blocks are the norm, and the afternoon sun beats down on the living rooms. In Churriana, Puerto de la Torre and Ciudad Jardin there are more houses with patios, ideal territory for pergolas in Malaga that shade the garden.
We look after you from our base in Velez-Malaga, and it’s our own technicians who take the measurements and carry out the installation. We work with Sauleda and Dickson fabrics, Cherubini motors, powder-coated aluminium and stainless fixings. Home visit, measuring and a fixed-price written quote, free and with no obligation.

City centre. Flats with balconies in historic buildings, and shops at street level. A drop arm awning or a roller awning is discreet, which matters on protected facades.
El Palo and Pedregalejo. Low-rise houses and terraces by the beach, with levante and salt air. The longest-lasting option here is a cassette awning fitted with stainless fixings.
El Limonar. Villas with gardens and views on the hillside. A bioclimatic pergola by the living room or the pool really comes into its own here.
Cerrado de Calderon. Homes with generous terraces and sea views. We’ve installed an aluminium and glass terrace enclosure here.
Teatinos. Newer buildings with large communities of owners and west-facing terraces. Awnings for communities, all the same model, make a lot of sense here.
Carretera de Cadiz. Blocks of flats with balconies onto the street and lots of afternoon sun. A roller awning gives shade and privacy with no building work.
Ciudad Jardin. Houses with patios and flats in an inland neighbourhood that gets hotter in summer. Aluminium pergolas shade the patio with no maintenance.
Churriana and Puerto de la Torre. Terraced houses, villas and plots on the outskirts. Great territory for retractable roof pergolas and fly screens.
Terral, levante and the western sun: the city’s climate
A penthouse in Teatinos and a house in Pedregalejo share a city but not the same exposure. That’s why we look at these three factors before suggesting a system for your home in Malaga.
Terral in summer
When the terral blows, dry and very hot air comes in from inland and the city’s temperature shoots up. West-facing facades heat up for hours.
What we recommend: light-coloured or screen fabrics, and outside shade with vertical awnings before the sun hits the glass.
Levante in the east
In the eastern beach neighbourhoods, such as El Palo and Pedregalejo, the levante blows in hard. And on penthouses in any district, gusts are stronger than at street level.
What we recommend: a Cherubini motor with a wind sensor and a zip screen to close off the sides.
Humidity and salt air
The city’s coastal strip gets a sea breeze every day. Ordinary fittings and unprotected fabric deteriorate sooner than you’d expect.
What we recommend: a cassette awning that encloses the fabric, with powder-coated profiles and stainless screws.

For a balcony on a flat in Malaga
In multi-storey buildings, the awning can’t project beyond the balcony and has to follow whatever the community has approved. In the city centre, heritage protection rules may also apply.

QUBRE installations in Malaga city

Licences, the historic centre and communities in Malaga city
Before installing, we check which procedure applies to your home or business. These are the most common scenarios in the city.
Malaga Town Hall
A retractable awning on a home usually involves a simple procedure; for a fixed pergola or an enclosure, the municipal by-laws may require a licence or a “declaración responsable” (a sworn statement to the town hall), depending on the case.
Historic centre
In heritage-protected areas there may be conditions on the type of awning, the fabric colour or the way it’s fixed to the facade. We check this before suggesting a model.
Communities of owners
In apartment blocks and urbanisations the facade is shared, and the owners’ meeting decides which model and colour are allowed. You’ll find the details in our article on awnings in communities of owners.
We handle the paperwork when it’s needed

Frequently asked questions about awnings in Malaga city
What affects the price of awnings in Malaga city?
The price of a made-to-measure awning depends on so many variables that any figure given without seeing the terrace would be unreliable. So before talking numbers, we come and measure up and give you a written quote for your awnings in Malaga city, with a fixed price and no obligation. That way you know from day one what you’ll pay.
What changes the result most is the system and its size: a roller awning for a balcony on the Carretera de Cadiz has little in common with a wide monobloc awning for a penthouse in Teatinos. Then there’s the fabric (Sauleda or Dickson, plain or striped), the Cherubini motor and any sensors you want to add.
In the city, some factors make the installation harder or easier: the height of the building, whether we have to work from the terrace or from outside, the type of facade and, in the city centre, possible heritage protection conditions. If you’re a community that wants matching awnings for everyone, the quote is put together jointly for the whole building.
The visit is free and the quote often arrives in under 24 hours. If you already have an awning and it’s just the fabric or the motor that’s failing, see our awning repairs in Malaga page: renewing it usually costs far less than replacing it with a new one.
Can I install an awning on a facade in Malaga’s historic centre?
In many cases yes, but Malaga’s city centre has heritage-protected areas, and that can mean conditions on the type of awning, its size, the fabric colour or the way it’s fixed to the facade. There’s no single rule for the whole old town: it depends on the building, the street and its level of protection. What works on one building may not be allowed on the one next door.
So before we make anything, we check your property’s situation and what Malaga Town Hall requires. Sometimes it’s enough to choose a neutral colour and a discreet system; other times, paperwork has to be submitted before installing. We tell you clearly from the start and, if needed, we take care of the procedure for you.
On balconies in the city centre, systems that don’t project too far usually work well, such as a drop arm awning or a roller awning. For shops and bars with terraces on the street, the installation has to be compatible with the permit to use the public highway, and we take that into account from the very first sketch.
On top of that, if the building has a community of owners, the owners’ meeting can set a common model for every balcony. There’s a full explanation in the article do I need permission to install an awning or a pergola? and, if you prefer, we can go through it together at the free home visit.
Which awning do you recommend for a penthouse in Teatinos or on the Carretera de Cadiz?
Penthouses on tall buildings have generous terraces and open views, but they’re also the most exposed: they get sun from first thing until sunset, and the wind blows harder than on the lower floors. In summer, when the terral blows, a terrace with no shade can be unusable for much of the day. And the heat the floor builds up passes into the living room even with the windows shut, so you feel the benefit of the shade indoors too.
To cover a large area safely, we recommend a cassette awning, which stores the fabric and arms in its case, or a monobloc awning when the width is large and more rigidity is needed. In both cases we advise a Cherubini motor with a wind sensor so the awning retracts by itself.
If you’re looking for something more permanent, a bioclimatic pergola with adjustable louvres lets you enjoy the terrace in sun, heat or a sudden downpour. And to block the low afternoon sun from one side, a zip screen with screen fabric keeps your view out.
First of all, we check what the community allows, because in newer buildings there’s often a set model and colour for the facade. At the visit we measure up, assess the anchoring on the slab or wall and give you a fixed-price written quote, with the alternatives explained.
How do I protect a terrace in El Palo or Pedregalejo from the levante?
In the city’s eastern beach neighbourhoods, El Palo and Pedregalejo, the levante and the sea humidity are part of daily life. The low-rise houses and flats near the sea have lovely terraces, but a poorly chosen awning suffers: the fabric gets dirty, the fittings rust and the gusts can damage the arms. That’s why choosing the right system matters more here than in an inland neighbourhood.
The starting point is a system that’s protected when not in use, such as a cassette awning, fitted with powder-coated aluminium and stainless fixings. Add to that motorisation with a wind sensor: the Cherubini motor retracts the awning when the wind blows hard, even if you’re not at home.
If you want to keep enjoying the terrace when the levante blows, what works best is closing it in vertically with guided systems. A windbreak awning can have clear windows so you don’t lose sight of the sea, and a zip screen keeps the fabric taut inside its side guides. Both are motorised, so lowering or raising them when the wind changes takes no effort.
Anchoring matters too: fixing into a load-bearing wall isn’t the same as into hollow brick, and on older houses it’s worth checking carefully. If you’d prefer a rigid roof, a properly designed aluminium pergola holds up better than fabric. We explain every option at the visit, with no obligation.
Do you install matching awnings for a whole community of owners in Malaga?
Yes. In Malaga city we can plan the installation for an entire community of owners that wants a uniform facade: every awning the same model, with the same fabric colour and the same frame. It’s a solution that works very well in the buildings of Teatinos, the Carretera de Cadiz or Ciudad Jardin, and also in urbanisations with communal areas.
The process is simple: we prepare a proposal with the right system for the type of balcony or terrace, several Sauleda or Dickson fabric options and a written quote, so the owners’ meeting can consider it calmly. Once it’s approved, each owner can order theirs knowing it will match the rest. That way the facade stays uniform even if each home installs at a different time, and nobody has to renegotiate the model.
For balconies, a drop arm or roller awning usually works; for terraces, a retractable or cassette awning. We also install pergolas for communal areas, such as the pool or the roof terrace. You’ll find all the details on our awnings for communities of owners page.
If you have questions about majorities and agreements, our guide to awnings and the Spanish Horizontal Property Act explains it clearly. And if an owner already has an old awning, we can adapt it to the common model by replacing the fabric, as long as the frame allows it.
Which awning does a bar or restaurant terrace in Malaga city need?
Hospitality plays a huge part in city life, and a terrace that’s well protected from the sun and wind means more hours of use and more comfortable customers. On this page you can see an awning with support legs that we installed on a bar terrace overlooking Malaga port. Every business is different, which is why we always start by looking at how the terrace is used throughout the day.
The solution depends on the space. Where the facade isn’t enough to support a large awning, an awning with support legs rests on the ground; to close off the sides when the wind gets up, windbreaks with side guides are the most practical; and for large widths, a monobloc awning adds stability.
The fabric works every day, so we choose Sauleda and Dickson fabrics that stand up to the sun and are easy to clean. Depending on the fabric, it can carry the name or logo of the business. With a Cherubini motor and a wall switch, opening and closing every shift takes no effort for the staff, and a wind sensor retracts it if nobody notices the wind has picked up.
If the terrace is on the public highway, the installation has to comply with the town hall’s permit, and we help you with the paperwork when needed. We try to install outside service hours so we don’t interrupt your business. Find out more in awnings for bars and restaurants.
Which pergola suits a villa in El Limonar, Cerrado de Calderon or Churriana?
The city’s houses with gardens have one thing in common: an outdoor space that gets used far more when it has lasting shade. A pergola turns that area into an extra room, for eating, working outdoors or relaxing by the pool. Among the pergolas in Malaga we install, the choice depends on how you’ll use it and which way it faces, as well as the style of the house.
If you want to use the outdoor space in the rain or in winter too, a bioclimatic pergola is the most complete: its aluminium louvres can be angled to let the air through or closed for protection. If you’re after simpler adjustable shade, a retractable roof pergola works with a canopy that folds along guides.
For a warm finish, wood suits leafy gardens, although it needs maintenance; wood-effect aluminium gives a similar look without varnishing. And if you’re after an enclosed porch, in Cerrado de Calderon we’ve installed an aluminium and glass enclosure that you can see on this page.
A fixed pergola may need paperwork with the town hall depending on its size and location, and we go through that with you. At the visit we study the garden, where the sun falls in summer and how to drain the rainwater, and give you a fixed-price written quote. See more options under made-to-measure pergolas.
Do you carry out awning repairs in Ciudad Jardin, Puerto de la Torre and the rest of Malaga?
Yes. We repair awnings in every neighbourhood of Malaga, whether we installed them or not. We look after you from our base in Velez-Malaga and check the awning at your home to tell you what’s wrong with it and whether it’s worth fixing or better to replace, with no obligation on your part. If the awning is high up or hard to reach, let us know when you book the visit and we’ll come prepared.
The most common faults are faded or torn fabric, loose arms that no longer stretch the fabric, rusty brackets in areas near the sea, and motors that stop responding or have lost their remote control. Many of them can be fixed by replacing a part or the whole fabric, for far less than a new awning.
We make new made-to-measure fabric using Sauleda and Dickson materials, and we can motorise your awning with a Cherubini motor if you’re still using a hand crank. Before we touch anything, you receive in writing what we’ll do and how much it costs, at a fixed price. If the community has a set colour, we find the fabric that best matches the rest of the facade.
To speed things up, send us photos of the awning on WhatsApp or book the visit using the form. New materials come with a 2-year warranty, depending on the manufacturer and product, and we stand behind our installation. More details in awning repairs and new fabric.
