Three areas, three solutions

Your awning company in Benalmadena, for every part of town

Benalmadena isn’t just one town, and that changes how you choose an awning. Anyone looking for awnings in Benalmadena might live in a whitewashed house in the Pueblo, a flat in Arroyo de la Miel with a balcony over the street or an apartment on the Costa with a terrace looking out to sea. We’re an awning company that looks after you from our base in Velez-Malaga and tailors every proposal to the area and the facade.

In Benalmadena Pueblo, narrow streets and a traditional look set the tone, so we go for discreet awnings. Arroyo de la Miel is the most urban part, with communities of owners and shops. And in Benalmadena Costa, Torrequebrada and Torremuelle there are plenty of hillside urbanisations with open views, where the wind arrives unobstructed and a well-oriented pergola in Benalmadena really comes into its own.

We install with powder-coated aluminium and stainless fixings, Sauleda or Dickson fabrics and Cherubini motors. First we come and see your home, measure up and advise you free of charge; then you get a fixed price in writing and decide with no obligation at all.

Parts of Benalmadena where we install

Arroyo de la Miel. The most urban part, with flats, communities of owners and shops. For balconies a drop arm awning is ideal, and for whole facades, awnings for communities.

The climate in Benalmadena

Height, views and sea breeze: how they affect your awning

From the Pueblo up on the hill down to the water’s edge at Puerto Marina, the wind, the sun and the salt air all change. This is what we look at on every visit.

Wind on the hillsides

The sloping urbanisations of Torrequebrada and the Costa have no buildings in front of them: the wind hits head-on and an extended awning acts like a sail.

What we recommend: a Cherubini motor with a wind sensor and, on exposed sides, a zip screen, whose fabric is held in side guides.

Terraces facing the sea

The views usually open to the south, exactly where the strongest sun comes in. In the middle of the day the terrace gets so hot you no longer feel like going out.

What we recommend: light-coloured Sauleda or Dickson fabrics, or micro-perforated fabrics that filter the heat without completely closing off the view.

Salt air at the marina and on the Costa

Next to Puerto Marina and on the seafront, the salty humidity punishes fixings, roller tubes and profiles that aren’t properly protected.

What we recommend: powder-coated aluminium, stainless fixings and a cassette awning to store the fabric when it’s retracted.

In the Arroyo apartment blocks the awning has to respect the look of the facade and, often, the model the community has approved.

Permits in Benalmadena

Communities, urbanisations and the town hall in Benalmadena

Each part of town has its own quirks. Before we manufacture anything, we check what applies to your installation.

Benalmadena Town Hall

A retractable awning usually involves simple procedures. Fixed pergolas and enclosures may need a minor works licence or a “declaración responsable” (a sworn statement to the town hall), depending on local regulations and the details of each case.

Urbanisations and communities

In Torrequebrada, Torremuelle or the Arroyo apartment blocks, the community may set the model and colour, and some urbanisations have their own rules on appearance. We explain it in awnings in communities of owners.

Businesses at Puerto Marina

Businesses at the marina, or with a terrace on public land, need the awning to fit their permit and the rules for the area. We go over it with you before proposing a system.

We handle the paperwork when it’s needed

If your awning or pergola needs any procedure, we tell you which one and prepare the documents. Find out more in permits to install an awning or a pergola.

Common questions about awnings in Benalmadena

Which awning is best in Arroyo de la Miel, Benalmadena Pueblo and on the Costa?

Even though it’s the same municipality, Benalmadena’s three areas call for different awnings. That’s why, when someone asks us for awnings in Benalmadena, the first thing we ask is where the house is. The facade, which way it faces, how exposed it is to the wind and the community’s rules vary a lot between the Pueblo, Arroyo de la Miel and the Costa.

In Arroyo de la Miel it’s mostly flats with balconies and community facades. The drop arm awning, which rests its arms in front of the railing, works very well, as does the roller awning for cutting out the low sun. In Benalmadena Pueblo, with its whitewashed houses and narrow streets, we look for discreet solutions that don’t spoil the look of the old village: vertical awnings on windows and small pergolas for patios and roof terraces.

In Benalmadena Costa, Torrequebrada and Torremuelle, terraces are bigger and more exposed. There we usually recommend a cassette awning, which protects the fabric from the salt air when it’s retracted, with a motor and wind sensor, or a pergola if you’re after steady shade that copes better with gusts.

At the free visit we look at your particular case, show you the fabric sample book and suggest the options that fit, with their pros and their limits, so you can choose with all the information. If you’d also like it automated, we’ll explain how motorisation with Cherubini motors works.

How does an awning company in Benalmadena work out the price of a quote?

Because every awning is made to measure, we don’t work with per-metre rates or give prices over the phone. What we do is come to your home in Benalmadena, measure the space and listen to what you want to achieve: shade for lunch, privacy from the neighbours or being able to sit outside when it’s windy. From there we prepare a written quote with a fixed price, often in under 24 hours.

The price depends on the type of awning, the width and projection, the Sauleda or Dickson fabric you choose, the powder-coated finish on the profiles, whether it’s manual or motorised, and accessories such as wind or sun sensors. The anchoring counts too: a concrete facade isn’t treated the same way as a hollow brick wall or a glass parapet.

In Benalmadena there’s one factor that keeps coming up: the views. Many terraces on the Costa or in Torrequebrada need shade without blocking them, and that can mean micro-perforated fabrics, a zip screen with screen fabric, which depending on the fabric lets you see out, or a louvred pergola. Each solution has a different cost, and we explain why.

If what you have is an old awning, look first at the option of replacing just the fabric. The visit, measuring and advice are free and with no obligation.

How can I shade a terrace with views in Torrequebrada or Torremuelle without losing the view?

It’s the big dilemma in Benalmadena’s urbanisations: you bought the house for the views and don’t want to block them, but at midday the terrace is unbearable. The good news is that there are systems designed for exactly that, and the key is to combine what goes overhead with what goes on the sides.

Overhead, a motorised cassette awning gives shade when you need it and disappears into its case the rest of the time, with no bars cutting across the view. If you’d prefer something fixed, the bioclimatic pergola has louvres you angle to filter the sun without closing off the sky, and depending on the model they’re motor-driven.

For the low afternoon sun, the one that comes in from the side just when you most want to be outside, the answer is vertical. A zip screen with screen fabric filters light and heat and, depending on the fabric, still lets you see out. It’s held in guides, so it doesn’t move in the wind that blows up the hillside.

We also choose the fabric colour with the landscape in mind: light tones so the terrace doesn’t feel dark, and colours that go with the facade. At the visit we show you the Sauleda and Dickson sample book on your own terrace, in the real light.

Do you install awnings for bars and restaurants at Puerto Marina in Benalmadena?

Yes, we install bar awnings in Benalmadena, at Puerto Marina as well as in Arroyo de la Miel and along the Costa. A hospitality terrace by the water has its own demands: shade for lots of tables from the morning onwards, protection from the breeze that comes in off the marina and fabric that still looks presentable after a whole season.

Depending on the premises, we suggest a wide retractable awning, a monobloc awning when the sizes call for more rigidity, or arms with telescopic support legs resting on the ground when the wall can’t carry the full projection. To close off the sides of the terrace on windy days we use windbreaks with side guides, which can have clear windows, depending on the model, so you don’t lose the view of the marina.

The fabric is the face of the business: with Sauleda and Dickson you have lots of colours and stripes, and depending on the fabric it can carry your venue’s name. With a Cherubini motor and a push button, opening and closing every day is no longer a chore, and the wind sensor retracts the awning even when the staff are busy serving.

At the marina, or on terraces on public land, the installation has to fit the relevant permit; we help you check it and handle the paperwork when it’s needed. You’ll find more ideas in awnings for businesses and hospitality.

Who repairs awnings in Benalmadena if the company that fitted them no longer exists?

We do. We carry out awning repairs in Benalmadena even if the awning was installed by another company, one that no longer exists or doesn’t answer the phone. We check it over, explain what’s wrong and tell you honestly whether it’s worth repairing or better to replace. It doesn’t matter whether it’s on a flat in Arroyo de la Miel, a house in the Pueblo or an apartment on the Costa.

Typical faults near the sea are faded or torn fabric, arms that lose tension, plastic parts cracked by the sun, rusty screws and motors that stop responding to the remote. Many are fixed by replacing the affected part or by sewing new Sauleda or Dickson fabric made to fit your frame, and the awning looks good as new without touching the structure.

If your awning is manual, a repair is a good time to motorise it with a Cherubini motor: with a wind sensor it will retract on its own, which is really useful on the exposed terraces of the Costa or Torrequebrada, where a gust can arrive without warning while you’re out.

Before we start you get a written quote with a fixed price, and the repair is carried out by our own technical team. To speed things up, send us photos of the awning and the fault on WhatsApp. More information in awning repairs and new fabric.

Which pergolas in Benalmadena work best for a house on a hillside?

Many homes in Benalmadena are built on slopes, with stepped terraces, porches looking out to sea and gardens on several levels. That shapes pergolas in Benalmadena: you have to think about where to place the posts, how to anchor to the facade and where the rainwater will drain so it doesn’t pour onto the terrace below.

When the pergola rests against the house, a wall-mounted pergola is the most practical: it’s anchored to the wall on one side and stands on posts on the other, making the most of the terrace without taking up too much space. If it’s in the middle of the garden or next to the pool, a freestanding aluminium pergola provides shade with no maintenance.

If you want to use the terrace in autumn and winter too, the bioclimatic pergola is the most complete option: adjustable louvres, rainwater drained through the structure itself and the option of closing the sides, depending on the model. In the windier urbanisations we always put stability and anchoring before looks.

Bear in mind that a fixed structure involves more paperwork than a retractable awning, and that the community or the urbanisation may have its own rules. We look at it at the free visit, check the condition of the walls it would be anchored to, suggest the position that makes the best use of sun and shade, and help you with the paperwork.

Do I need permission to put up an awning or a pergola in Benalmadena?

It depends on what you’re installing and where. Broadly speaking, a retractable awning on a home involves simpler paperwork than a fixed pergola or an enclosure, which, depending on their size and location, may need a minor works licence or a “declaración responsable” (a sworn statement) submitted to Benalmadena Town Hall. The current by-laws are what count, so it’s not wise to rely on what a neighbour did years ago.

In apartment blocks and urbanisations there’s a second filter: the community of owners. As the facade belongs to everyone, the owners’ meeting can set the model, fabric colour and type of structure so everything looks uniform. Urbanisations such as Torrequebrada or Torremuelle may also have their own rules on appearance. We cover it in our guide to awnings and the Spanish Horizontal Property Act.

In Benalmadena Pueblo, given its traditional village character, it’s wise to check before putting up any structure visible from the street. And for businesses at Puerto Marina, the awning has to fit the business’s permit and the marina’s conditions. In Arroyo de la Miel and on the Costa, the main constraint is usually the community, especially in buildings with lots of identical terraces.

You don’t have to do that research yourself or waste mornings queuing at council offices: we check it at the visit and handle the paperwork when it’s needed. There’s a general explanation in do I need permission for an awning or a pergola?

Do you install fly screens and enclosures in Benalmadena?

Yes. As well as awnings and pergolas, we fit fly screens in Benalmadena made to measure for every window or door, and we enclose terraces and porches with aluminium profiles and glass. These jobs are often requested together with the awning: a home that gains shade on the terrace usually wants to sleep with the windows open without mosquitoes, too.

Fly screens can be roller, pleated or sliding. Roller screens usually suit the windows of flats in Arroyo de la Miel; for terrace doors on the Costa, pleated ones, which take up little space and don’t get in the way when you walk through. We make them to the exact size of each opening and in a colour to match the window frames, depending on the model.

A terrace enclosure turns a space exposed to the wind into a room you can use all year round without losing light or views. In urbanisations facing the sea it’s a very practical solution, but it usually needs the community’s agreement and, depending on the case, a procedure with the town hall; we explain it and handle the paperwork when it’s needed.

If you want to sort everything out in one go, ask about the awning, fly screens and enclosure at the same visit: we take all the measurements at once and put everything in a single written quote, with a fixed price. And if you live in the neighbouring municipality, take a look at our awnings in Fuengirola page.
