Your awning and pergola company in Malaga and the Axarquia
QUBRE is an awning company in Malaga based in Velez-Malaga, on Avenida Pablo Iglesias. From here we install awnings and pergolas in Malaga city, right across the Axarquia, along the Costa del Sol as far as Estepona and on the Costa Tropical in Granada. We measure, install and repair with our own technical team and never use subcontractors, so the person advising you really knows how the fixings will sit on your wall.
We do everything that brings shade and shelter to a terrace: made-to-measure awnings (folding arm, cassette, drop arm, roller, windbreak, zip screen and monobloc), bioclimatic, aluminium, wall-mounted and wooden pergolas, plus pergolas with a retractable roof, terrace and porch enclosures and fly screens. And if your awning is already up but playing up, we repair it or fit new fabric, even if another company installed it.
Life on the coast is tough on a terrace: the levante and poniente winds, the hot terral, salt air and a relentless afternoon sun. That’s why we use powder-coated aluminium, stainless fixings, Sauleda and Dickson fabrics and Cherubini motors, and before recommending anything we look at which way the terrace faces, how the wind hits it and where it can be anchored.

Shade, whenever you want it
Scroll down and spend a whole day on a Málaga terrace with a cassette awning, from breakfast to dinner. Scroll back up and it closes again.
Cherubini motor
Out of the cassette and fully open
With the remote, the motor rolls out the fabric and the folding arms stretch until it is taut. When you close it, everything goes back into the aluminium cassette. See our cassette awnings.

The whole table in the shade
The terrace is covered while the garden stays in the sun. We use Sauleda and Dickson fabrics, made for the coastal sun.
Roll-down valance
When the sun sinks low
Depending on the model, a screen-fabric valance drops from the front bar to block the low afternoon sun without hiding the view.
LED lighting
And at night, dinner stays outside
Depending on the model, you can add LED lights built into the awning. We will show you the options at your home.

Design my pergolaLevante, terral and salt air: how to choose wisely
An awning that copes in Madrid won’t necessarily survive on the seafront in Torre del Mar. These are the four things we check on every terrace on the Costa del Sol, the Axarquia and the Costa Tropical.
The levante
This easterly wind sweeps through the Axarquia in strong gusts. A large awning with no protection puts strain on its arms, and the fabric acts like a sail.
What we recommend: a motor with a wind sensor that retracts it automatically, or a zip screen and windbreaks with side guides on the sides.
Afternoon sun and the terral
On west-facing terraces the sun comes in low and the hot terral wind sends temperatures soaring. Horizontal shade just isn’t enough.
What we recommend: Vertical awnings or drop arm awnings, with light-coloured fabrics that reflect the heat. We explain it all in this guide.
Salt air
Near the sea, humidity and salt attack screws, fittings and profiles. Cheap materials rust within a couple of summers.
What we recommend: powder-coated aluminium, stainless fixings and simple fabric care.
Sudden downpours
It doesn’t rain often, but when it does, it pours. A flat awning with no pitch collects water and loses its shape.
What we recommend: the right pitch and, if you want to use the terrace when it rains, a bioclimatic pergola with louvres that close.

Frequently asked questions about awnings and pergolas in Malaga
Which areas of Malaga and Granada do you install awnings and pergolas in?
Our head office is in Velez-Malaga, and from here we install awnings and pergolas in Malaga city, right across the Axarquia, along the Costa del Sol and on the Costa Tropical in Granada. In the Axarquia we work every day in Velez-Malaga, Torre del Mar, Nerja, Torrox, Rincon de la Victoria and Algarrobo, as well as the inland villages of the area.
Heading west, we cover Malaga city and the Costa del Sol: Torremolinos, Benalmadena, Fuengirola, Marbella and Estepona. Heading east, we cover the Costa Tropical, with Almuñécar, Salobreña and Motril, and we also go up to Granada city and its metropolitan area.
Each town has its own page covering what people there ask for most, the neighbourhoods and areas where we work, and questions about the local climate and rules. If your town isn’t on the list, get in touch anyway: we often combine visits on the same route and can easily drop by.
The home visit, measuring and quote are free in all of these areas. All we ask is that you tell us your town when you get in touch, so we can plan the route and give you an appointment as soon as possible. And if you have a second home on the coast and aren’t here all year round, just let us know: we can arrange the visit with whoever has the keys and send you the photos and the quote afterwards by WhatsApp or email.
How does the quote work? Do I have to pay for the visit?
No. The home visit, measuring and advice are free and with no obligation. You can request them using the form on this page, by phone on +34 694 57 17 33 or on WhatsApp. If you send us two or three photos of the terrace or window and tell us your town, we’ll arrive at the visit already knowing what might suit you.
At the visit we measure the space, look at the type of wall and where it can be anchored, check which way it faces and how the wind hits it, and show you fabric samples and frame colours. We’ll also explain the differences between systems, for example between a cassette awning and an open folding-arm awning, so you can make an informed choice.
Then we give you a written quote, with no obligation and a fixed price, in under 24 hours and often on the same day. It sets out the sizes, the model, the fabric, the motor if there is one, and the installation. That price won’t change halfway through the job.
We don’t give ballpark prices over the phone, because the real cost depends on lots of things that can only be seen at the visit: sizes, type of fixing, fabric, automation and access. We’d rather give you a firm, reliable figure. If you’re happy with it, we agree an installation date with you and our own team fits it.
Awning or pergola: which is right for my terrace?
It depends on how you want to use your terrace. An awning gives you shade when you need it and retracts when you don’t, so it’s the most flexible option for terraces, balconies and penthouses. If the wall is strong enough and there isn’t much wind, a retractable awning or a cassette awning usually strikes the best balance between shade and simplicity.
A pergola is a fixed structure that creates a covered space. It makes sense when you want to use the terrace in the rain or in winter too, when the area is large, or when there’s no good wall to anchor an awning to. Bioclimatic pergolas let you angle the louvres to let air through or close them when it rains, while aluminium pergolas with a sliding canopy and retractable roof pergolas are lighter.
On the coast, the wind matters too. In a strong levante a large awning needs a motor with a wind sensor, whereas a well-anchored pergola holds up better and can be closed in with a zip screen or windbreaks.
If you’re not sure, use the assistant at the top of this page or book a visit: very often the best solution combines both, for example a pergola with vertical screens or an awning with support legs. What matters is that the solution suits your wall, the wind in your street and how you’ll actually use your terrace.
Which fabric and motor brands do you use for your awnings?
We work with Sauleda and Dickson fabrics and Cherubini motors. They’re manufacturers we know well, with wide sample ranges and proper warranty support, which is exactly what you want if something goes wrong within the covered period.
Sauleda and Dickson acrylic fabrics come in plains and stripes, in colours made for the southern sun, and there are also technical screen fabrics that filter the light while still letting you see out, widely used in vertical awnings and zip screens. At the visit we show you the real sample book, because colours on a screen are never quite accurate.
Cherubini motors are operated by remote control and can be combined with wind and sun sensors that retract or extend the awning automatically. They can also be used to motorise a manual awning you already have, as long as the frame is in good condition.
For frames we use powder-coated aluminium and stainless fixings, because on the coast salt air soon eats into cheap materials. If you only want to replace the fabric on your current awning with one of these brands, take a look at our fabric replacement service. If you have a particular colour or texture in mind, bring us a photo or a sample and we’ll find the closest match in their collections.
Do you repair awnings and pergolas installed by another company?
Yes. Our after-sales service also looks after installations by other companies. It’s one of the things we’re asked for most: awnings with torn or faded fabric, arms that don’t retract properly, motors that have stopped working or cassettes that won’t close.
First we come and take a look, and we tell you honestly whether it’s worth repairing or better to replace it. Often it’s enough to replace the fabric with a new Sauleda or Dickson one, adjust or replace the arms, change the roller tube or fit a motor. Other times the frame is so damaged by salt air that it isn’t worth spending money on.
If your awning is manual and you’d like more convenience, we can motorise it with a Cherubini motor and add a wind sensor, which on the Axarquia and the Costa del Sol saves a lot of trouble when the levante blows.
Repair quotes are free and in writing too. To get an idea beforehand, send us photos on WhatsApp of the awning, the arm or the motor label, along with your town, and we’ll tell you which parts may be needed. To make it last longer afterwards, have a look at our cleaning and maintenance guide. We carry out these repairs in all our areas, from Estepona to Motril and Granada, with the same team that does our new installations.
What guarantee do QUBRE awnings and pergolas come with?
Materials come with a 2-year warranty, depending on the manufacturer and the product. This means each brand sets the exact scope for each part: the fabric, the motor, the arms or the profiles. If something fails because of a manufacturing defect within that period, we handle the warranty with the manufacturer and carry out the replacement.
On top of that, we stand behind the structure and the installation carried out by our team: anchoring, levelling, fabric tension and general operation. Because we install with our own team and never use subcontractors, we know exactly how every job was done.
What no guarantee covers is damage caused by misuse or by conditions beyond what the product can withstand, such as leaving an awning extended in a levante storm. That’s why we recommend wind sensors on exposed terraces, and when we finish we show you how to use and look after it.
Once the warranty has run out, we’re still close by: we carry out servicing, adjustments and repairs from Velez-Malaga for the whole area. And if you have any questions about what your particular case covers, we put it in writing in the quote. Keep the quote and the invoice: they’re your proof for any warranty claim with the brand, and with them we can quickly identify the exact model we installed and the parts it uses.
Do I need permission from my community of owners or the town hall to put up an awning?
It depends on where you live and what you’re installing. In a flat, the facade is a common element of the building, so the community of owners usually has a say on the model and colour of the awning. Many communities have already approved a specific type so the whole facade looks the same. We explain it in detail in this guide to the Spanish Horizontal Property Act.
As for the town hall, a domestic retractable awning normally involves simpler procedures than a large fixed pergola, which may need prior notification or a licence depending on the municipality and the size. Every town hall in Malaga and Granada has its own rules, and protected areas or historic centres can be stricter. You’ll find a fuller explanation in our guide to permits for awnings and pergolas.
At the visit we tell you which procedure usually applies in your case and, when it’s needed, we handle the paperwork and permits with you before we start. That way you avoid surprises with your community or a fine for installing without the right procedure.
If you’re a community that wants matching awnings across the whole facade, we have a service designed for exactly that: awnings for communities of owners, with a proposal for the owners’ meeting and the same model on every home.
Which awning or pergola best withstands the levante and the salt air on the coast?
For wind, what matters is the combination of frame, anchoring and automation. A cassette awning protects the fabric and arms when it’s retracted, and if you add a Cherubini motor with a wind sensor it retracts on its own when the wind picks up. For large sizes, a monobloc awning spreads the load on the facade better.
If you want to close off the sides without the fabric flapping loose, a zip screen is held in guides on both sides and copes far better than a conventional blind. Windbreaks with side guides are very useful on promenade bar terraces and on porches open to the east.
Against salt air, the material is everything: powder-coated aluminium, stainless fixings and quality fabrics. Bioclimatic and aluminium pergolas are ideal near the sea because they need hardly any maintenance.
Even so, no awning should be left extended in a storm. At the visit we check how much wind reaches your terrace and recommend the right system and automation so it lasts for many summers. On seafront terraces we also recommend checking the anchors and rinsing the fabric with fresh water a couple of times a year, which costs very little and greatly extends the life of the awning. If you like, we can show you similar installations in your area so you can see how they hold up.
