An awning company in Torremolinos that understands the beach
Torremolinos lives facing the sea, and you can tell on every terrace. When people ask us for awnings in Torremolinos, it’s nearly always for an apartment with beach views, a penthouse that turns into an oven by mid-afternoon or a restaurant terrace that can’t afford to lose customers to the sun or the wind. We look after you from our base in Velez-Malaga, with the same in-house team from start to finish: the person who measures is the person who installs.
The municipality changes a lot from one neighbourhood to the next. La Carihuela and El Bajondillo sit right on the sand and live off bars and restaurants; Playamar and Los Alamos are full of apartment blocks with long terraces; Montemar has villas and houses with gardens where a pergola in Torremolinos makes perfect sense; and the town centre is packed with flats with balconies and shops. That’s why we don’t recommend the same awning everywhere.
For the coast we choose powder-coated aluminium and stainless fixings, Sauleda or Dickson fabrics and Cherubini motors when you want to forget about the crank handle. We come and see you free of charge and leave you the price in writing, fixed and with no obligation.

La Carihuela. The old fishermen’s quarter, with fish restaurants along the promenade. What suits it best are bar awnings and windbreaks for the terraces.
El Bajondillo. The beach below the town centre, with apartments and hotels looking out to sea. A cassette awning protects the fabric from the salt air when it’s retracted.
Playamar. Apartment blocks with large terraces next to the beach. A retractable awning with a motor and wind sensor is usually the way to go.
Montemar. A residential area with villas and houses with gardens. Aluminium pergolas and bioclimatic ones for eating outdoors fit in well here.
Los Alamos. The eastern end of the municipality, with a beach, hotels and nightlife. For terraces open to the levante, a zip screen or windbreaks with side guides.
Town centre. Flats with balconies and lots of street-level shops. A drop arm awning for windows and shopfront awnings for retailers.
Levante, terral and salty breeze: what decides your awning
The weather in Torremolinos is kind almost all year round, but it has three enemies of awnings. This is how we factor them in before recommending anything.
The levante on the beach
When the levante (easterly wind) blows, it comes in hard off the beach and hits the terraces of La Carihuela, Playamar or Los Alamos side-on. An awning left extended with nobody watching is the one that ends up with bent arms.
What we recommend: a Cherubini motor with a wind sensor so it retracts on its own, and zip screen sides wherever you need to close off.
Terral and afternoon sun
On some summer days the terral arrives, a hot, dry wind that sends temperatures soaring, and west-facing terraces get the harshest sun right at lunchtime or dinnertime.
What we recommend: light-coloured acrylic fabrics or micro-perforated fabrics, arms with a good projection and a vertical awning to block the low sun.
Salt air on the seafront
On buildings along the promenade, the breeze leaves a salty film that rusts ordinary screws and dirties the fabric. If the materials aren’t chosen well, the awning ages before its time.
What we recommend: powder-coated aluminium, stainless fixings and a cassette awning that stores the fabric away. And to look after it, our guide on how to clean an awning.

Town hall, community and promenade: what paperwork is involved
We check what applies to your installation before we manufacture anything. These are the most common cases in Torremolinos.
Torremolinos Town Hall
Retractable awnings on homes usually involve a simple procedure. Fixed pergolas or enclosures may need a minor works licence or a declaración responsable (a sworn statement to the town hall), depending on the current municipal by-law and each case.
Apartment blocks
In Playamar, El Bajondillo or Los Alamos many terraces belong to communities of owners. The facade is shared, and the owners’ meeting can set the model and fabric colour. We explain it in awnings in communities.
Bar and restaurant terraces
If your bar has a terrace on the public street or is right by the beach, the awning has to fit your terrace permit and, on the seafront, there may be extra conditions. We check this with you before suggesting a system.
We tell you what paperwork you need and prepare it
When the installation needs any paperwork, we handle the documents. You’ll find a general explanation in permits for awnings and pergolas in Malaga and Granada.

Frequently asked questions about awnings in Torremolinos
What does the price of awnings in Torremolinos depend on?
We won’t give you a figure blind, because every awning is made for a specific space and Torremolinos has a bit of everything: the narrow balcony of a flat in the town centre, the long terrace of an apartment in Playamar or the front of a restaurant in La Carihuela. The honest thing to do is come round, measure up and give you a written quote with a fixed price, which you’ll often have in under 24 hours.
What affects the cost most is the system: a drop arm awning for a window is nothing like a wide cassette awning for a penthouse. Then come the width and projection, the fabric you choose from the Sauleda and Dickson sample books, the frame colour and whether you want it manual or with a Cherubini motor and automation.
In Torremolinos two factors weigh more heavily than elsewhere. One is exposure to the levante on the seafront, which sometimes means adding a wind sensor or side screens. The other is access: getting an awning up to and fitting it on an upper floor of an apartment block isn’t the same as doing it on a low-rise house in Montemar.
If you already have an awning and it’s just worn, compare first with the cost of replacing the fabric: it’s often the best option. The visit is free and doesn’t commit you to anything, so you can compare at your leisure.
Which awning best withstands the levante on an apartment in Playamar or La Carihuela?
It’s one of the questions we hear most in Torremolinos, and with good reason. Along the beachfront, from Los Alamos to La Carihuela, the levante comes in side-on several times a year, and terraces on the upper floors feel it even more. The first rule is simple: no fabric awning should be left extended in strong wind, so what matters is that it retracts in time even when you’re not there.
That’s why on the seafront we nearly always recommend motorising the awning with a Cherubini motor and wind sensor: when it detects gusts, it retracts on its own. If you also choose a cassette awning, the fabric and arms are stored in an aluminium case, safe from the wind, dust and the salt that clings to everything on the promenade.
If what you want is to keep using the terrace when it’s windy, the answer isn’t a folding-arm awning but a vertical screen. A zip screen holds the fabric in side guides so it doesn’t act like a sail; you can also close off one side with windbreaks. A combination that works well is an awning overhead and a screen on the side the levante comes in from.
Fixings matter just as much. On coastal buildings we check whether it will be screwed into a wall, the edge of a floor slab or a parapet, and we always use stainless fixings so they don’t weaken over the years. At the visit we’ll tell you what your facade can take.
Do you install awnings for bars and beach bars in Torremolinos?
Yes, we make bar awnings in Torremolinos and across the rest of the Costa del Sol. Hospitality is king here: the restaurants of La Carihuela, the bars of El Bajondillo and the venues in Los Alamos rely heavily on their terraces. An awning for a business isn’t chosen like one for a home: it has to cover lots of tables, open and close every day and cope with the wear and tear of high season.
For long terraces we usually suggest extra-wide folding arms or a monobloc awning, which is more rigid, or an awning with support legs if the facade can’t hold the full projection. To close off the sides when the levante blows, windbreaks with side guides let you keep the tables full.
The fabric sets the image of your business. We work with Sauleda and Dickson fabrics, in plains and stripes, and depending on the fabric it can be personalised with your business name or logo. A Cherubini motor with a wall switch saves the daily effort of opening and closing, and a wind sensor avoids nasty surprises while the staff are busy inside.
If the terrace is on the public street or on the promenade, the installation must fit the town hall’s authorisation. We tell you what to check and try to install when it disrupts your business least. More details in awnings for bars and restaurants.
Do you carry out awning repairs in Torremolinos even if another company installed them?
Yes. Awning repairs in Torremolinos make a lot of sense, because in an area with so many apartments it’s easy to inherit an awning nobody knows who fitted, or whose installer no longer answers. It doesn’t matter to us who installed it: we check it over, explain what’s wrong and tell you whether it’s worth repairing or better to replace.
What we see most on the coast is fabric scorched or torn by the sun, split seams, arms that have lost their tension, screws rusted by the salt air and motors that stop responding. In many cases all it takes is replacing the part or making new made-to-measure fabric in Sauleda or Dickson, and the awning works like new again.
Before we touch anything, we give you a written quote with a fixed price. If the frame is so damaged that it isn’t worth it, we’ll tell you straight. And if you use the repair as a chance to add a Cherubini motor with a remote and sensor, your manual awning will retract on its own when the levante picks up: find out more in awning motorisation.
To help us point you in the right direction faster, send us photos of the awning, the motor label if it has one and the fault on WhatsApp. With that we can often tell you which part is needed before we come out. You’ll find all the information in awning repairs and new fabric.
What permits do I need to put up an awning in a community of owners in Torremolinos?
In a town with so many apartment blocks, the first hurdle isn’t usually the town hall but the community of owners. The facade is a shared element, and the owners’ meeting may have approved a model, a fabric colour and even a type of arm so that every terrace looks the same. Before ordering anything, it’s worth asking the property manager whether there’s such an agreement.
If there is, we follow it to the letter: we find the same fabric reference in the Sauleda and Dickson sample books and the same frame colour. If the community wants to standardise every awning in the building, we can prepare a joint proposal; we explain it in awnings for communities of owners and in our guide to the Spanish Horizontal Property Act (Ley de Propiedad Horizontal).
As for Torremolinos Town Hall, a retractable awning on a home usually involves a simple procedure, whereas a fixed pergola or an enclosure may require a minor works licence or a declaración responsable (a sworn statement to the town hall). That depends on the current by-law, the size of the installation and whether it can be seen from the street.
You don’t have to find it all out on your own or act as go-between for the property manager and the town hall. At the visit we review your case and, when needed, handle the documents. There’s a general guide in do I need permission for an awning or a pergola?
Which pergola suits a villa in Montemar or a penthouse in Torremolinos?
Pergolas in Torremolinos meet two very different needs. In Montemar and the areas with houses and gardens, people want a cool, permanent spot for the garden table or the sun loungers by the pool. On the penthouses of tall buildings, it’s about turning a terrace exposed to sun and wind into a liveable space for much of the year.
For the garden, an aluminium pergola is the most practical option: it needs no varnish, comes in a wood-effect finish and copes well with the humidity on the coast. For anyone who wants morning sun and afternoon shade, a retractable roof pergola has a sliding canopy that folds up at one end.
On a penthouse the star is the bioclimatic pergola: its aluminium louvres can be angled to let air through or closed when a shower comes over, and a rigid roof handles the wind better than fabric. It can be finished off with zip-style side screens for levante days, and with a motor and sensors, depending on the model.
Before suggesting anything we look at which way it faces, how the rainwater will drain and what your community or the by-laws allow, because a fixed pergola usually involves more paperwork than an awning. The visit and advice are free, and the quote reaches you in writing with a fixed price.
Which awning is best for a holiday let in Torremolinos?
If you rent your flat out to holidaymakers in Torremolinos, the awning has to meet a condition that matters less in a regular home: it has to work properly even when it’s operated by someone who doesn’t know it, and even when you’re not around to retract it. It’s easy for a guest to leave it open when they head to the beach, and the levante gives no warning.
The safest solution is a motorised awning with a Cherubini motor and wind sensor, which retracts on its own when it detects gusts. With a wall switch or a simple remote, any guest can use it without forcing the crank handle, which is one of the most common faults in rental flats. You’ll find everything in awning motorisation.
A cassette awning is highly recommended in these cases: when it’s closed, the fabric is protected from the sun, salt air and dirt between stays. For bedrooms facing the street or the beach, made-to-measure fly screens in Torremolinos prevent complaints on summer nights and let guests sleep with the window open.
And if something goes wrong in the middle of the season, our after-sales service is there for you. The materials warranty is 2 years, depending on the manufacturer and product, and we also stand behind the structure and the installation. Send us photos on WhatsApp and we’ll arrange a check.
How does an awning company based in Velez-Malaga work in Torremolinos?
QUBRE has its premises in Velez-Malaga, on Avenida Pablo Iglesias, and from there we cover the Axarquia, Malaga city and the Costa del Sol, and the Costa Tropical and Granada. Torremolinos is within that area, and we never subcontract anyone to measure or install: it’s always done by our own technical team.
The process is always the same. You get in touch through the form, on WhatsApp or by phone, Monday to Saturday from 8am to 8pm, and we arrange a visit to your home or business. We measure, check which way it faces, the wind the terrace gets and the type of fixing, bring out the fabric sample books and go through with you which system fits. The visit is free and with no obligation.
Then you get the written quote with a fixed price, often in under 24 hours. If you accept it, it’s made to measure and the same team comes back to install it. Make the most of the visit to ask us about other jobs too: we also do aluminium and glass terrace enclosures and fly screens.
If we need to come back later for an adjustment, a service or new fabric, we take care of that too with our after-sales service. If you’d like to know more about how we work, we explain it in about our company. And if you live in a neighbouring town, take a look at our pages for Benalmadena and Malaga city.
